Pop, pop! Oh no! The city of Itasca has been contaminated with a toxic vat of popcorn. Teams of engineers (aka 8th graders) must create a viable solution for moving the toxic contents to a safe EPA approved container, but time's ticking, only 1 hour before the corn pops! A teamwork challenge to start off the 8th grade year.

Hazardous Waste Research Project & Action PlanAs a follow up to the toxic chemical scenario, students will be researching hazardous waste spills in DuPage County and then looking at their own homes to see what unsafe substances lurk therein. Students will then come up with an Action Plan to help minimize the human impact on the environment for our community here in Itasca.

To finish out the 8th grade year of STEM, students will have to reach back into their coding memories for building and completing challenges using the Lego Mindstorms robots. See pictures and Videos Below for their creations.

Code Hs & Creative Programming ProjectTo become more familiar with the lines behind the block coding, students go through an online self-paced course. There they learn the basics of computer coding and then have the opportunity to apply this newfound knowledge to write the code to create their own program! All of this is done through the Code HS website. Check out some of their programs below!

3D Printing ProjectIn this mini course, students become familiar with the basic principles of 3D design. They must submit a proposal detailing their plan and use for their 3D printed object, and then use Tinkercad software to bring their creation to life.
